This film chronicles in close-up an act of overwhelming horror – the brutal honour killing of Banaz Mahmod, a young British Kurdish woman in suburban London, killed by her own family, with the agreement and help of a large section of her own community, because she tried to choose a life for herself.
The film is the result of three year’s work by independent film maker Deeyah Khan – gaining the access to and trust of the key participants, including in-depth interviews with Banaz’s sister, the homicide squad which cracked the case and the prosecution team which secured the convictions. It also contains exclusive footage of some of her killers – her own father and uncle.
